New Development in Tiverton - Acreage Used
On average, 135 acres of Tiverton are developed each year,
. . . the equivalent of more than ½ of Pardon Gray Preserve

Tiverton is at a crossroads. The rural, scenic and small town character we cherish is giving way to both residential and commercial sprawl, traffic, noise and pollution. Farms, fields and forests are threatened by a building binge unprecedented in Tiverton’s long history. Some have been lost forever. We must act immediately and decisively to protect our unique rural character and natural heritage. The task is urgent. Time is running out. Tiverton has been “discovered.”

For these reasons, the Tiverton Land Trust asks for your donation. With your help, the Trust will have flexibility to move fast and decisively when attractive purchase and sale agreements are in the offing. As with the 2007 acquisition of the 48-acre Pereira parcel there are additional opportunities on the horizon to protect the oak and holly forest as well as land around Nonquit Pond and other strategic, high-value acres. Work is also in the process for the Trust to be a part of the new Sandy Woods project and the preservation of Ferolbink Farm. The Trust and its partners, The Nature Conservancy, Tiverton Open Space Commission and RIDEM, are continually and actively engaged in negotiations with key land parcels.

In the past decade, the all-volunteer Tiverton Land Trust has protected over 400 acres. The Board and other volunteers have invested time and money to protect our heritage for present and future generations. Your significant contribution will assist us in leveraging matching funds from the state and federal governments to enable continuation of these preservation efforts. Please join us in our efforts to save Tiverton’s future by making a generous, tax-deductible pledge or contribution to our Land & Natural Resources Protection Fund. The TLT Board is committed to its mission and, with your help, looks forward to the challenges ahead.
