Highland Woods Campaign Update
The TLT's campaign for funding Highland Woods, adjacent to Fort Barton Woods, officially got under way last February. Since then we have reached 75% of our fundraising goal of $400,000. The TLT got off to a great start by receiving a major award of $187,500 given by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Open Space Grants. Major benefactors, donors, and supporters of the Land Trust boosted the campaign contributions by another $113,630. We now have less than $100,000 to raise before the end of our campaign!
Meanwhile, we have received a $10,000 grant from The Newport County Fund of the Rhode Island Foundation in support of a master concept plan to develop specifications and designs for Highland Woods. This money is supplemented by a $1,053 grant received from the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Also, the Tiverton Open Space Commission (TOSC) has approved using the 2011 grant of $761 from the R.I. Foundation's Pocassetlands Stewardship Fund. These awards will be used to help develop the habitat management plans of Highland Woods. TLT is working with the TOSC to develop these plans.
Please help us reach our goal.
